Community Connections at WorldBoston
WorldBoston's Community Connections Program, funded by the US Department of State, offers homestay-based practical training opportunities in Boston for professionals from the former Soviet Union. As noted on the US Department of State's website, the goals of the Community Connections program are to:
- provide participants with
professional training and exposure to day-to-day functioning of a free market
system;
- encourage public-private partnerships
in Europe/Eurasia by including private sector and government participants;
- create links between U.S. and
Europe/Eurasia regions and communities.
(From US Department of State's website)
WorldBoston has been involved in Community Connections Program since 1999. Since then, 3 groups a year have come to Boston to participate in professional development programs. Groups have come from Odessa, Ukraine, Kaliningrad, Russia, St. Petersburg, Russia, Komi Republic, Russia. While in Boston, these professionals participate in an educational and professional program designed for them by Emerging Leaders staff. In addition, they have a full cultural program and live with homestay families to gain the most from their American experience.
