Homestay Information
Host families are asked to provide room and board for their guest for approximately 2-4 weeks, depending on the length of the program. A host family is asked to:
Provide a private room for the guest
Breakfast and dinner daily (the guest are given a per diem for lunch expenses)
Have access to public transportation (bus, commuter rail, or the T).
WorldBoston is now able to offer funding of $250 per participant for each 3 week period hosted by a family.
When the finalists for the group are selected the homestay hosts are contacted to see if they would be interested in hosting for this particular group. If they are interested WorldBoston staff works to provide the best possible match for each homestay host and guest.
Prior to the group’s arrival in the US, each homestay host receives a short bio on their guest, general information about the region that their guest is coming from, as well as a homestay host manual. Homestay hosts meet their guest at a Welcome Reception organized by WorldBoston staff and from there the guests travel with the homestay hosts to their home.
Most homestay hosts agree that they have benefited from their homestay host experience:
“It
enriches your life and you feel good that you were able to show foreign visitors
your culture.” -Jim
Burke, a loyal homestay host
