WorldBoston Launches Academic WorldQuest
Global
Knowledge Competition for High School Students
Set for Saturday, March 15, at Boston University
BOSTON, March 10 /WorldBoston/ – Bill Clifford, executive director of WorldBoston, has announced that Academic WorldQuest, a global knowledge competition for high school students, will be held Saturday, March 15, from 10 a.m.-1.p.m at Boston University’s Photonics Center, 8 St. Mary’s Street, Boston.
Academic WorldQuest is a flagship program of the World Affairs Councils of America, of which WorldBoston is a member. This is the first time Academic WorldQuest will be held in the Boston area. Two teams, one from Billerica Memorial High School and one from Newton Country Day School, will be participating in WorldBoston’s inaugural WorldQuest contest. Each team of four students will be asked eight rounds of 10 questions covering topics that include geography, current international events, world leaders and key foreign policy decisions. The team with the highest total of correct answers after all eight rounds will be the winner. The winning team will compete in a national Academic WorldQuest, to be held in Washington, D.C., on April 5.
“We are pleased to launch Academic WorldQuest as a pilot program,” said Clifford, who joined WorldBoston as executive director in January 2008. “This is an educationally powerful and fun way for high school students to interact and learn from each other about world affairs. We look forward to expanding the program to include as many high schools in the Greater Boston area as wish to compete.”
