Kicking off our Chat & Chowder 2019 series with Chuck Freilich discussing his new book Israeli National Security. National security has been at the forefront of the Israeli experience for seven decades, despite the fact that the country has no formal national security strategy. How should Israel develop a comprehensive plan to confront the threats it faces? In Israeli National Security, Chuck Freilich presents an authoritative analysis of the military, diplomatic, demographic, and societal challenges Israel faces today, to propose a holistic and long-term Israeli national security strategy.

Chuck Freilich was a deputy national security adviser in Israel. He is now a senior fellow at the Belfer Center at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He is the author of a first of its kind book on Israel’s national security decision making processes, which was awarded the 2014 annual book prize by the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), Israel’s preeminent think tank. He has also begun co-authoring a book on Israel and the threat of cyber warfare.
