“Resiliency and Equity in Community-Driven Change” will focus on the expertise and experiences of Dr. Atyia Martin and Mr. Clement Manyathela in community-driven movements, such as the end of Apartheid in South Africa and recent Black Lives Matter protests across the United States. Their perspectives will allow for a discussion of deep racial inequalities, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, the legacy of reconciliation in South Africa, and positive outcomes of citizen-led movements.
Dr. Atyia Martin is a Senior Fellow at the Global Resilience Institute and the Founder/CEO of All Aces, Inc., a Racial Equity Applied Learning Partner for organizations to advance racial equity and build resilience. Dr. Martin was also the first Chief Resilience Officer for the City of Boston in the 100 Resilient Cities campaign, focusing her efforts on racial equity, social justice, and social cohesion.
Bringing an international perspective to the conversation is Mr. Clement Manyathela, a senior political reporter for Eyewitness News in South Africa. Mr. Manyathela is also an alumnus of the State Department-sponsored International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) with WorldBoston.
The event will be moderated by Dr. Stephen Flynn, Founding Director of the Global Resilience Institute. Steve has met with numerous IVLP groups, and participated in a WorldBoston exchange with Manchester, UK.
