MENTAL HEALTH RESILIENCE FOR YOUTH

A Regional Project for the Near East and North Africa

  • Examine how federal, state, and local government policies financially support and address youth mental health challenges
  • Explore the role of and collaboration among mental health providers, education professionals, academics, and community leaders to provide counseling and wellness services
  • Discuss outreach efforts that facilitate early detection and treatment plans for youth experiencing mental health issues
  • Analyze current research and development of mental health diagnosis and treatment strategies for youth mental disorders

MINORITY PARTICIPATION IN THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS

A Regional Project for the Americas

  • Survey U.S. federalism and citizen participation in democratic and political processes
  • Illustrate strategies to engage youth and underserved, excluded, and minority populations in U.S. society to increase their participation in economic growth, civic activities, and political affairs
  • Explore the roles of education, religion, and culture in a pluralistic society
  • Examine case studies on the evolution of race relations and discrimination in the United States

EDWARD R. MURROW PROGRAM FOR JOURNALISTS: RESEARCH AND INVESTIGATION

An Inter-Regional Project

  • Examine the rights and responsibilities of a free press in a democracy and the principles and laws governing the press in the United States
  • Gain an understanding of the evolution, current status, and trends in journalistic investigations and research in the United States
  • Explore unique aspects that distinguish investigative reporting from traditional journalism
  • Understand the role that investigative journalists play in U.S. society as they raise awareness of issues of social concern and report on illegal, irregular, or abusive actions on behalf of government, politicians, criminals or corporations
  • Assess the impact of social media, new communication technologies, citizen journalism, and alternative forms of investigative reporting
  • Discuss best practices in ensuring that reports are fact checked
