PROTECTING CULTURAL HERITAGE THROUGH INNOVATION

A Project for Iraq

  • Examine technological trends and innovations in the area of cultural heritage protection and heritage tourism
  • Explore the use of virtual exhibitions to highlight and share critical elements of cultural heritage to a broader audience
  • Provide opportunities to create new partnerships between U.S. and Iraqi museums and cultural institutions
  • Identify innovative models for community engagement, educational programming, and outreach

21ST CENTURY CHANGEMAKERS:  PRESERVING AND PROTECTING CULTURAL HERITAGE AND IDENTITIES

A Regional Project for South and Central Asia

  • Examine current U.S. theory, practice, and the application of new technologies in the area of cultural heritage protection, such as methods for inventory control and documentation
  • Provide opportunities for the creation of partnerships and linkages with U.S. museums, auction houses, academic institutions, NGOs, U.S. law enforcement agencies, and other entities that manage, protect, and preserve cultural property
  • Learn about the institutions and individuals involved in the research, presentation, and conservation of American cultural heritage
  • Explore strategies to highlight and share critical elements of cultural heritage to a broader audience
  • Highlight advocacy methods used by public and private entities to raise awareness of cultural heritage preservation domestically and overseas

ENDING GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

A Regional Project for the Western Hemisphere

  • Review best practices for preventing gender-based violence
  • Discuss techniques to identify forms of gender-based abuse, report abuse, prosecute abusers, and provide assistance and protection to victims of gender-based violence
  • Improve understanding of how fostering economic opportunities, education, entrepreneurship, political participation, and leadership, can serve as tools for combating violence
  • Examine education and outreach initiatives which focus on women’s legal rights, the responsibility of men and boys to avoid perpetuating gender-based violence, and combating trafficking in persons

COUNTERING DISINFORMATION AND ADVANCING DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLES

A Project for Italy

  • Examine U.S. policy at the federal, state, and local levels to counter the dissemination of  disinformation and misleading reporting
  • Introduce and provide broad exposure to the seriousness of the current threat posed by disinformation and deceptive news
  • Examine tactics, techniques, and technology for detecting and combating disinformation as well as countering disinformation with positive truthful narratives, responsible journalism, fact-checking, critical thinking, and myth-busting
  • Explore the role of NGOs, academia, and traditional and social media in the fight against the proliferation of deceptive media and the dissemination of disinformation
  • Learn innovative public outreach and social media strategies, techniques, and best practices to encourage greater public awareness of the phenomenon of disinformation

MINORITY AND MARGINALIZED POPULATIONS ACTIVISM FOR INCLUSION

A Project for Indonesia

  • Develop strategies that enable creation of new systems and policies that improve laws, rules, norms, and organizational structures to ensure diversity is not just tolerated but is promoted and celebrated
  • Examine what diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility means in a democracy, particularly to minority and marginalized voices, and how to create a common framework around these values to form alliances locally, nationally and internationally
  • Discuss how minority voices have successfully created historical narratives on the local, regional, and national levels that at once shine a light on challenges that have existed and still exist today while also highlighting ling-term positive impact of diverse voices and perspectives to society
  • Examine the concept of “allyship” and how minority voices in the United States have successfully recruited members of majority populations to join efforts to effect change

INTERNATIONAL PARENTAL CHILD-ABDUCTION-RELATED ISSUES

A Project for Saudi Arabia

  • Shed light on how the U.S. judicial process works related to international parental child abduction cases
  • Learn about support and resources for the safe return of children to their countries of habitual residence
  • Explore state social service systems
  • Examine governmental and nongovernmental programs
  • Demonstrate U.S. support for building KSA institutions and social development while encouraging U.S. partnerships

U.S. LEGISLATIVE SYSTEM – BRITISH-AMERICAN PARLIAMENTARY GROUP (BAPG)

A Project for the United Kingdom

  • To review the institutions, processes, and traditions of the U.S. political system, the division of powers, and the U.S. electoral system at federal, state and local levels
  • To gain insight into current domestic and foreign policy issues
  • To discuss foreign policy and security issues of concern to Europe and the U.S.
  • To increase understanding of the U.S. economic system and the domestic forces that influence U.S. trade policy, as well as examine state and local initiatives for regional economic development
  • To examine the role of the media in the U.S. political system

21ST CENTURY CHANGEMAKERS: ENGAGING YOUTH IN THE BATTLE AGAINST DISINFORMATION

A Regional Project for Europe

  • Examine model programs and social campaigns promoting media literacy and resilience against polarization and extremism through youth civic engagement and leadership in spaces such as schools, colleges, local grassroots initiatives, youth clubs, sports and arts programs, interfaith initiatives, and local and state government action
  • Examine the importance of pluralism, tolerance, and volunteerism as components of civic life in the United States
  • Explore advocacy and leadership strategies targeted for youth that facilitate social cohesion and tolerance
  • Discuss strategies to create discerning consumers of media among youth
  • Gain insight into the impact of social media on the social, economic, and political fabric of the United States.
