Combating Trafficking in Persons 

A Regional Project for the Western Hemisphere and Spain

  • Review U.S. government strategies to combat international trafficking in persons, including crimes against women and children, by examining the formulation, administration, and enforcement of U.S. policy on the national, state, and local levels.
  • Examine the roles that government, law enforcement, the courts, and local organizations play in detecting, preventing, and prosecuting crimes.
  • Explore initiatives to recognize, protect, and assist victims of abuse and trafficking, including victim recovery and reintegration programs.
  • Investigate international law enforcement cooperation in trafficking in persons cases.

Health Cooperation

A Multi-Regional Project

  • Examine federal, state, and local public health policies and programs for managing communicable and non-communicable diseases.
  • Explore public-private public health partnerships in both urban and rural settings.
  • Survey the latest collaborative public health research, how doctors share information, and patient management software systems that facilitate comprehensive care.
  • Review case studies related to communicable disease outbreaks and lessons learned.

Transparency and Accountability in Government

A Multi-Regional Project

  • Enhance understanding of ethical systems for accountability and transparency in government in the United States.
  • Explore the role of citizens, traditional and new media, academia, and civil society in fostering transparency and accountability in government, including highlighting the mechanisms that enable citizens to foster good governance, ethical standards, and accountability at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Examine the effect of transparency on trade, investment, and economic development.
  • Address international efforts to strengthen the integrity of governments.

Disability Rights – Equal Access for All

A Single Country Project for Oman

  • Examine federal, state, and local laws including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Explore public and private sector funding for services and quality of life-enhancing programs for persons with disabilities.
  • Learn how various government and NGO entities, associations, and grassroots organizations inform policy and educate about disability issues.
  • Create professional networking opportunities that facilitate long-term dialogue among the visitors and their American counterparts.

Foreign Policy, Economic Security, and China

A Regional Project for Europe and Bosnia and Herzegovina

  • Convey a deeper understanding of the U.S. foreign, military, and trade policy approach to China as an adversary in strategic competition.
  • Examine China’s influence, activities, and trends worldwide, in particular regarding the United States and Europe.
  • Explore U.S. methods to build resilience to Chinese Communist Party (CCP) economic coercion, transnational repression, and illicit technology transfers.
  • Engage influential Europeans in a dialogue on how transatlantic allies can partner to counter CCP malign influence and defend common interests.

Regional Collaboration to Combat Transnational Crime

A Regional Project for Europe

  • Provide an understanding of the American criminal justice system and the legal framework for combating a range of transnational crimes.
  • Identify ways in which American policy makers and law enforcement agencies can collaborate with European partners to counter transnational crimes.
  • Explore the role of law enforcement and prosecutorial authorities at the federal, state, and local levels to detect, investigate, and prosecute various transnational crimes, such as financial and organized crimes, the trafficking and smuggling of people and goods, and terrorism.

Enhancing Collaboration to Combat Transnational Crime

A Single Country Project for Europe

  • Provide an understanding of the American criminal justice system and the legal framework for combating a range of transnational organized crime activities.
  • Explore the role of law enforcement and prosecutorial authorities at the federal, state, and local levels in detecting, investigating, and prosecuting various transnational crimes, such as, financial crimes, the trafficking and smuggling of narcotics, wildlife, firearms, and other illicit material.
  • Identify ways in which Brazil can collaborate with U.S. partners to counter transnational crimes and disrupt criminal networks.
  • Examine strategies and case studies of successful U.S. public-private partnerships and information sharing to combat transnational organized crime activities.
