ADVOCACY THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA

A Regional Project for the Middle East and North Africa

  • Examine First Amendment principles and the delicate balance in protecting free speech on social media
  • Illustrate how social media has transformed the way in which youth advocate and engage in civil society
  • Observe the operations of digital media companies and those creating industry-advancing technology
  • Explore how non-profits, advocacy organizations, and government agencies work with the digital content industry

CLIMATE CHANGE AND BIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION IN THE UNITED STATES

A Project for India

  • Assess national, state, and local progress in the United States towards linking scientific research with public support for practical solutions to improving human and ecosystem health, assuring adequate food and water supplies, and providing sustainable livelihoods  
  • Consider how local and regional land-use practices protect biodiversity while supporting economic growth, development and tourism that benefit local communities
  • Discuss priority areas for practical actions to raise awareness of climate change challenges and promote public engagement in environmental conservation 

WOMEN IN POLITICS AND CIVIL SOCIETY

A Multi-Regional Project

  • Examine the U.S. political system and the participation of women leaders at the local, state, and national levels
  • Explore programs and initiatives that encourage young women to get involved in civic activities including running for elected office
  • Introduce the role that women’s organizations take in shaping political dialogue and gain an understanding of effective interaction and support among women across various sectors
  • Highlight legislation and programs that promote equal pay and fair treatment for women in both civic and work spaces
  • Introduce initiatives and legislation that address women’s needs in the social arena including health care, employment, education and child care
  • Demonstrate women’s political and civic interest and contributions to broader policy issues such as legislation that affects foreign, military, and economic policy

EVERYONE COUNTS! BUILDING CAPACITY IN THE PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES (PWD) COMMUNITY

A Project for India

  • Discuss the history and impacts of disability rights movements in the United States
  • Review evolving legal and social norms for access to education, healthcare, employment,and political representation for PWDs
  • Explore programs and policies to address specific challenges for PWDs resulting from climate changes, pandemics, or other barriers to full integration in society
  • Examine new and on-going research and strategies technologies to address the needs of PWD communities

PROMOTINGCYBERSECURITY

A Multi-Regional Project

  • Examine the U.S. government’s efforts to manage cybersecurity risk and assess threats to critical infrastructure
  • Discuss U.S. policy and efforts to secure an open, interoperable, secure, and reliable cyberspace, including U.S. interagency functions
  • Explore cyber education, research, and development efforts
  • Assess the efficacy of Internet security legislation and explore protections for privacy rights and civil liberties
  • Evaluate the role of the private sector in promoting cybersecurity, including public-private information sharing and data protection
  • Explore economic and national security impacts of malevolent cyber activity
  • Discuss strategies to collaborate and counter cyber threats
