December at WorldBoston

Dear Friends,

2017:  Wait, what?

From the inauguration of President Trump to North Korean nuclear tests,  ransomware to the international advance of marriage equality, the liberation of Mosul and Raqqa to Mugabe's resignation, free speech to hurricanes, Xi's ascent to Saudi reforms, #metoo to the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem,  -- just to name just a few big stories -- the year delivered a stunning array of big events.

Maybe you're grateful, as I am, to have been part of the WorldBoston community this year, benefiting from extraordinary speakers, international visitors, and each other's engaged perspectives, as we make our way through this amazing time.

Global Education

Next week we wind down our 2017 public programs with the timely Great Decisions session, "The Future of Europe" with Erik Jones, on December 14 at the gorgeous Rabb Lecture Hall of the Boston Public Library.  Please note the unusual start time, 6:30 pm, and register here.

In January, watch for our special joint luncheon with the Boston Economic Club featuring Brandeis International Business School's Stephen Cecchetti on January 24. Our regular Chat & Chowder and Great Decisions series are off until February, but you can check out 2018 Great Decisions topics below.

Citizen Diplomacy

We close out an exceptionally active year in Citizen Diplomacy -- over 700 visitors -- with a unique delegation on "Community Leadership in Preventing Violence".  This week eight Manchester, UK community leaders are meeting with counterparts throughout Boston.  In January, a delegation of from Boston will return the visit, in a special reverse exchange to Manchester.  We are proud to facilitate this citizen diplomacy effort to address key global -- and local -- issues.  Special thanks to the City of Boston for enthusiastic cooperation!

Update from the Office

This month, we say goodbye and many thanks to our great Northeastern coops Dayo Hall and Jacob Lensing-Sharp and volunteer Paige Welch. And welcome as program associate to B.C. student Jenna Bergquist.

From all of us at WorldBoston, Happy Holidays to you and yours!
