Great Decisions with Dr. Kori Schake | The Future of NATO and European Security

Tuesday, June 17th

6:00 – 7:30 PM ET

Europe is frightened and frightening for the first time really since the 1980s, when nuclear sabers were rattling as the Soviet Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) both deployed contending intermediate range missiles along the dividing line of the military alliances. With Russia’s continued barbarity in Ukraine there is no escaping that Vladimir Putin intends not to be “European.”

Join us for a timely discussion of this topic with Dr. Kori Schake, leader of the foreign and defense policy team at the American Enterprise Institute. This program will feature an expert presentation, live audience Q&A, and time for networking and discussion with other globally-oriented participants in the Newsfeed Café.

The Inaugural Laurence H. Silberman Lecture on Law and National Security with Attorney General William Barr

Monday, June 15th

4:00 – 5:15 PM ET

The presidency and the courts are both indispensable for the rule of law, but hard national security questions sometimes create conflict between the two branches of government. Few Americans knew this better than Judge Laurence H. Silberman, a public servant in both the judicial and executive branches. To inaugurate AEI’s annual Laurence H. Silberman Lecture on Law and National Security, former Attorney General William Barr will speak on the rule of law, the courts, and national security.

The Future of Warfare: Is the U.S. Military Ready?

Tuesday, June 17th

12:00 – 1:00 PM ET

The nature of warfare is evolving rapidly as nations integrate cutting-edge technologies into their military arsenals. Ukraine’s drone strike against Russian bomber bases demonstrates that a smaller, more innovative force can effectively challenge a larger and better-equipped adversary. Similarly, during the brief India-Pakistan conflict in May, Pakistan’s Chinese-built JF-17 fighter jets reportedly performed well against India’s French-made Dassault Rafale aircraft. These developments raise critical questions about how the United States allocates its defense budget. How can we ensure that our military is equipped for the conflicts of tomorrow rather than those of the past? Are drones more strategically valuable than fighter jets? Do tanks and aircraft carriers still have a place on the future battlefield? And just as importantly, how do we recruit and train the personnel needed to operate increasingly sophisticated systems? Join the World Affairs Council of Atlanta for a compelling conversation with Ambassador (ret.) Charles Shapiro and retired U.S. Air Force General Philip Breedlove as they explore how emerging technologies, global conflicts, and shifting priorities are reshaping modern warfare.

NATO 2025 Summit: Rebalancing the Transatlantic Relationship

Tuesday, June 17th

12:00 – 1:30 PM ET

NATO member states will gather on June 24–26 in the Netherlands for the 2025 NATO Summit. This comes as NATO member states’ disparate interests, competing priorities, and varying perspectives on the future of Ukraine threaten the cohesion of the alliance. For both domestic and strategic reasons, US leaders from across the political spectrum seek a rebalanced alliance in which European states would take increasing responsibility for conventional deterrence on the continent. Yet while many European leaders pay homage to this idea, steps toward this objective remain halting. Will the United States follow through with plans to withdraw troops from Germany and Eastern Europe? How will European members respond to the U.S. demand that they spend 5 percent of their gross domestic product on defense? Join the CATO Institute for this briefing as we examine the primary themes of the 2025 NATO Summit and options for the United States to rebalance the transatlantic relationship.

INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT MUTUAL AID PLATFORM

The Boston Network for International Development created a Mutual Aid platform to support individuals in Greater Boston / New England who have been directly impacted by the foreign aid pause and USAID shutdown. This peer-to-peer resource connects community members who need assistance with those who can offer help in areas such as career mentorship, job search support, networking, housing, and more.

How It Works:

If you need assistance, submit a request and your request will be shared (without personal contact details) on a public listing (see list of requests).

If you can offer assistance, submit an offer and your information will be listed publicly for those seeking help (see list of offers).

If you see a specific request you can help with, submit a response and your offer will be forwarded to the requestor.

This platform is a community-driven mutual aid network. BNID does not verify, vet, or endorse any requests, offers, or responses. All interactions are voluntary and at participants’ own risk.
