This December, we host four in-person delegations as part of Citizen Diplomacy Programs at WorldBoston. Check below to see where the visitors are from and what the objectives are of their visit.

PROMOTING CLIMATE RESILIENCE, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, AND GOOD GOVERNANCE IN THE PACIFIC

A Regional Project for East Asia and the Pacific

  • Develop a greater understanding of diverse economic and business models that support small business growth and economic development to benefit local communities
  • Examine the factors, including government policies, that businesses take into consideration as they strive to ensure profitability and growth while being environmentally responsible
  • Observe relationships and alliances among all levels of government with citizen groups and private organizations to address the effects of global environmental challenges and ensure environmental protection
  • Review international best practices related to secure management of ports, investment screening and its effects on national security, legislative tools to protect critical infrastructure, anti-corruption and good governance mechanisms, and utilizing smart port management as an example of a well-run infrastructure project
  • Discuss trade, investments, incentives, taxation, and fiscal policy
  • Examine international port management, security and sovereignty, capacity, supply-chain management, technology, and best practices

EXCELLENCE IN HIGHER EDUCATION STEM IN THE QUAD

A Multi-Regional Project

  • Explore how U.S. Institutes of Higher Education (IHEs) partner with industry and teach academic concepts through real-world applications
  • Examine how innovative IHEs seek transformative approaches to STEM learning, including undergraduate STEM education, research experiences for undergraduates, international research experiences for students, and graduate training programs
  • Address the key role federal and state governments play in furthering STEM education by working in partnership with stakeholders at all levels
  • Explain how the United States looks to create a diverse talent pool of STEM-literate Americans prepared for the jobs of the future

HUMAN AND CIVIL RIGHTS FOR MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES

A Multi-Regional Project

  • Highlight best practices to prevent and address human rights violations against members of marginalized communities
  • Explore building local capacity to document abuses and advocate for rule of law to protect the rights of victims
  • Discuss advocacy strategies to reform discriminatory laws and policies and to develop improved legislative protections
  • Plan public education campaigns to promote tolerance, inclusiveness, and/or awareness of minority communities and their contribution to society
  • Examine interfaith dialogue and cooperation efforts in communities at risk for sectarian violence

ENHANCING REGIONAL MARITIME GOVERNANCE AND COOPERATION IN THE QUAD

A Regional Project for Asia

  • Share best practices of maritime governance with a focus on legal and regulatory frameworks, efficient organizational management, human resource capacity, and emerging technologies
  • Examine how U.S. maritime agencies and other relevant stakeholders can increase coordination on issues such as cybersecurity, public health, disaster management, international crime, and other complex issues
  • Discuss the strategic, mutual benefits for maintaining and communicating about a free and open Indo-Pacific region through Quad initiatives such as the Indo-Pacific Partnership for Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA)
  • Examine how ports and other strategic facilities can secure their systems and infrastructure from conventional and cyber threats as well as climate changes
